Life's Rough Roads is about a local Ocala, Florida, couple who fought their battles separately until life brought them together for a late-in-life happiness well deserved.













Albert Mellen

In the late 1940s Albert Mellen lands his first movie role as the rapist in Outrage, directed by Ida Lupino. The part so disturbs him that it becomes significant in the onset of mental illness. Relations with his first wife are affected, escalating his unstable condition until she commits him to a mental institution.

Al's story begins with his attempted escape from Camarillo State Hospital in 1951. He is captured and returned to face electro-convulsive therapy, and begins to piece together his faded memories.

Ann Tracy

At age fifteen Ann is a lonely girl, longing for girlfriends her own age. Through misunderstanding and childish fantasizing she joins a convent, believing the closeness of convent life will answer her deep-seated need. Once inside the order, she finds it far different than expected. Admitting her mistake, she determines to leave. But her parents' declaration of pride in her chosen vocation causes such prolonged indecision that she becomes ensconced in the religious life. She can't find the strength to take the ultimate step until many years later.
